Lucas Digne agrees to contract termination with Aston Villa
Lucas Digne has left Aston Villa after agreeing to terminate his contract with the Premier League club, sources have told ESPN.
The defender has been keen to leave Villa Park for several months and was frozen out of the first-team squad by manager Unai Emery.
Digne, 29, is now a free agent and is expected to attract interest from a number of clubs in England and abroad.
Digne's time at Aston Villa
Digne joined Aston Villa from Everton in August 2021 for a fee of £25 million.
He made 27 appearances for the club, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
However, he fell out of favour with Emery after the Spaniard was appointed as manager in October 2022.
Digne's future
Digne is now free to join a new club on a free transfer.
He has been linked with a move to a number of clubs, including Napoli, Inter Milan and Newcastle United.
Digne is a left-back with a good attacking threat. He is also a set-piece specialist.
Conclusion
Lucas Digne's departure from Aston Villa brings to an end a difficult period for the player.
He will now be looking to find a new club where he can play regularly and rediscover his best form.
